Its now officially Fall, which means two things; Pumpkin Spice lattes are back and my Instagram feed is slowing becoming more and more dotted with pumpkin photos. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a pumpkin photo as much as the next blogger but there are some things you can do to set yours apart from the rest. In todays post I’ll be sharing 5 ways to make your fall photos even better!
1. Golden Lighting
The best time to take any photos, especially fall photos, is golden hour. Try to shoot during the hour before and the hour after a sunrise/set. The lighting, especially in the late summer and early fall months, is stunning and brings a golden aura to the images.
2. Beat the Crowds
They say the early bird gets the worm and the same goes for photos! While an early wake up call may not be ideal, but its all worth it when you get the whole pumpkin patch to yourself!
3. Dress for the Weather
Now this may seem like an obvious but dressing for the weather will make your shoot go 100x easier, especially if you are carrying around heavy equipment such as camera bag and tripod. I like to shoot in layer so that you can swap pieces about to create a couple of autumnal looks.
4. Bring a Tripod
Now this brings us to our next point, bringing a tripod is key to well composed shots. If you have a friend or family member with you, set the shot up and take a trial one of them to get your focus and settings right, then all you have to do is swap places and they can press the button. Easy!
5. Move Around
Before getting ‘the shot’ I like to try several different spots around the location, pay attention to shadows and objects that have potential to mess up the shot, no one wants a photo of a tree coming out of their head.
So there we are, my 5 tips for the best fall shoot! Hope these were helpful tips and that they help your shoot go off without a hitch! If you aren’t quite ready to shoot fall content yet are still in the mood to add some autumn to your socials I’ve made these instagram/facebook story templates:
